I have mild panic attacks when someone WON\'T STOP TALKING
Once in a while I have gotten into situations where I am hanging out with strangers and one person (usually drunk) is chattering non-stop and they are constantly looking at me for reactions and whatnot. I am somewhat anti-social so I'm obviously not the greatest conversationalist and I often don't care about what people are saying to me, but I would also consider myself to be polite, so I try not to brush these assailants off. But after enough time I start to wear down and look for ways out. If i cannot find one, I start to have some sort of panic attack. I get dizzy and short of breath and I feel like I need to lay down, shut my eyes and NOT listen to their annoying voice anymore. This has happened to me about 3 times now and has been worse each time. Just happened last weekend and I actually felt nauseous for like 20 minutes after (although the gravity bong hits might have played a small role in that).
My question is, what disorder is this symptomatic of? I'd like to self-diagnose myself hurr. |

Are you high every time you get a panic attack?

Re: I have mild panic attacks when someone WON\'T STOP TALKING
"Shut the F*** up dude, you're ruining my high.
or if you're more polite. "Dude, I'm so high, just chill" |

Re: I have mild panic attacks when someone WON\'T STOP TALKING
I know this doesn't exactly address the point of your OP but it's still relevant info...
I think I have mild to intermediate panic disorder too, and I can say without a doubt that getting high increases the frequency/intensity of the attacks. I initially refused to acknowledge this correlation on the basis that I've been a huge pothead for years, but the panic attacks have been a relatively new occurance for me; therefore in my mind the pot couldn't have anything to do with the attacks. Since then, through experience and research, I'm now 100% convinced that pot can be a catalyst for an attack. If you're like me and refuse to quit smoking pot, I've learned some breathing and meditation techniques that help me a lot in coping with/prevention of an attack - pm me for resources if you're interested. Edit to add: you asked for a diagnosis in your OP. I'm no doctor but this sounds exactly like panic disorder. |

Agoraphobia?
edit: I didn't see the part about pot.. that basically explains it. |

Social Anxiety Disorder.
I suffer from the exact same symptoms. Try not to let it run your life! A good group therapy session (I know, it seems weird but it works) will help immensly. Talk to your local doctor... they'll be able to refer you to somebody. |

When I was making this thread the thought that pot might have played a role each time did come to mind. Perhaps there is something to what you're saying Towelie.

Re: I have mild panic attacks when someone WON\'T STOP TALKING
Your over politeness seems to be the real problem.
You don't have to act like a jerk to tell someone they are invading your space. Just ask them nicely to back down and your not really listinging anyway because YOU have things on your mind. Problem solved |

My girlfriend and I have both had panic attacks when we were high. I also get really paranoid sometimes.
