Re: Lessons from German civilians

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. [/ QUOTE ] Yet somehow they do not control the governments. The great majority of Muslim nations are not run by Islamic radicals. Syria, Egypt, Turkey!!!, Indonesia, Jordan, on and on. (Stand by for exceptions to be claimed as the rule.) The OP is McCarthyite scare mongering on the same order as the fluoridated water hysteria. There is so much political hay to be had by frightening people. [/ QUOTE ] If you exclude countries with supposedly moderate governments that are strongly influenced by radicals (or worse, clandestinely support them), I dont think you are left with a majority of "moderate Muslim countries". Clearly the populations the true moderates govern are in the minority. [/ QUOTE ] Please define a moderate govt for me. Because I don't know of any govt that has been involved in more conflicts, has secret police all over the globe, and has a more aggressive posture than the US. If numbers are any guide, the fact that we spend OVER 7 TIMES as much on defense as the #2 nation in the world should be a clue. But we're the moderate, peace-loving guys... [/ QUOTE ] [/hijack] [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to hijack the thread whose title is the "lessons from German civilians" by pointing out that Americans are first in line to ignore those lessons... Please resume your Muslim-bashing and pretend all the world's major problems stem from them... |

I asked you to define a moderate govt, and pointed out the US record. If this is a hijack of your point, so be it. It is nonetheless still unanswered and relevant to your post. |

Re: Lessons from German civilians
I was responding directly to a post about "radical" Islamic governments. It should be painfully obvious that "moderate" was meant to refer to "non-radical". Whether the US is moderate or not is irrelevant to the OP, which cautions against dismissing radicals as "fringe" or non-representative of the masses.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, in that case, discussion of the US as moderate is ENTIRELY relevant to the OP! We dismiss the real influences on American foreign policy all the time and pretend that they are only fringe ideas, when in fact, they are driving policy more than you can imagine. |

Re: Lessons from German civilians
So the lesson is that people suck, but some suck more than others.
