Canadian Roadtrip
Me and my friends are from Denver Colorada and roadtripping to Canada late July. What is the shortest route to a big tournament we could play? Any personal experience with this? Thanks in advance,

Re: Canadian Roadtrip
I assume you want it to coorespond with poker rooms, but not sure where any big tournaments would be taking place. I'd say head on up to Calgary, they have a pretty good poker scene, and its just a short 2-3 hour drive from Edmonton. Or you can go west from there to Vancouver where there are some pretty big casinos, like River Rock, Canadas largest poker room.

Re: Canadian Roadtrip
Vancouver has the best rooms in the country. THIS LINK will have some good info. River Rock and Edgewater are the places to be.
If you want big tournaments in late July, Casino Regina (Saskatchewan) is the place to go. They have an 8-table room for cash games with 1/2 & 2/4 NL + 10/20 & 20/40 limit (IIRC) Diamond Poker Classic Wednesday, July 25 Texas Hold’em No Limit $10 entry fee $50 buy-in $ 20 re-buys (first three levels - 600 chips) $20 optional add-ons (additional levels - 1200 chips) Max. 150 players Texas Hold’em No Limit Thursday, July 26th, 12:00PM $25 entry fee $200 buy-in (1,000 chips) $100 re-buys (1,000 chips) $100 add-on (2,000 chips) Played to completion Texas Hold’em No Limit Freeze Out Friday, July 27th, 12:00PM $25 entry fee $500 buy-in (5,000 chips) Played to completion $200,000* Canadian Poker Open **This is a televised Canadian Poker Tour event** Texas Hold’em No Limit Freeze Out Saturday, July 28th, 12:00PM $50 entry fee $1,000 buy-in ($10,000 chips) Played to completion Other posters mentioned Calgary and Edmonton...both good choices. Two links for Calgary: Link Link When you get here, don't freak out about the gas prices though. |

Re: Canadian Roadtrip
Calgary indeed has a lively scene. If you want to play 1/2 NL, I would recommend Deerfoot Inn & Casino - usually they have 3-4 tables going, as well as 5-5 PLO with a $1,000 max buy-in. The Cash Casino runs 1-2 as well, plus small tournaments, but it's dingy and the staff is unfriendly, unless you are one of their white trash regulars.

Re: Canadian Roadtrip
Elbow river casino in Calgary also has limit games from 4/8 - 30/60 and occasionally a $50/100 game. They also have a $10/25 PLO game that plays more like $25/50 that goes mostly on the weekends. I also heard they have had some 5/10nl games going lately too.
