1-2 NL: bad luck or donkey play?
Started playing 1-2 full ring recently, buying in for half max. I keep finding myself in the situations like the following where I lose it all after building it up steadily for a while.
Are these two sample hands bad luck or donkey moves? HAND ONE: Villian is playing 70% of hands. Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 9 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter) SB: $223.75 BB: $100.10 UTG: $61.65 UTG+1: $208.80 Hero (MP1): $98.00 MP2: $306.85 MP3: $205.75 CO: $194.70 BTN: $96.20 Preflop: Hero is dealt K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (9 Players) 2 folds, Hero raises to $7.00, 2 folds, CO calls $7.00, 2 folds, BB calls $5.00 Flop: ($22) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $15.00, CO folds, BB calls $15.00 Turn: ($52) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players) BB checks, Hero bets all-in for $76.00, BB calls $76.00 River: ($204) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In) Pot Size: $204.00 ($3 Rake) BB had 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (three of a kind, Eights) and WON (+$103.00) Hero had K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a pair of Kings) and LOST (-$98.00) On the turn, I could have bet 35, but felt I'd have to call a raise anyway so i pushed expecting him to call with KQ/QJ,etc... Thoughts? HAND TWO: Both villian and I have tight pf stats. Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 9 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter) SB: $166.70 BB: $194.00 UTG: $264.25 Hero (UTG+1): $114.50 MP1: $206.25 MP2: $211.30 MP3: $76.45 CO: $61.00 BTN: $222.75 Preflop: Hero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (9 Players) UTG folds, Hero raises to $5.00, MP1 raises to $14.00, 6 folds, Hero calls $9.00 Flop: ($31) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero checks, MP1 bets $22.00, Hero raises to $97.00, MP1 raises to $172.00, Hero calls all-in for $3.50 Uncalled bet of $71.50 returned to MP1 Turn: ($232) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In) River: ($232) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In) Pot Size: $232.00 ($3 Rake) MP1 had A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (a pair of Aces) and WON (+$114.50) Hero had A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (a pair of Kings) and LOST (-$114.50) In this hand, I check raised the flop because villain continuation bets 100% of the time. |

Re: 1-2 NL: bad luck or donkey play?
Buy in full. With your half stack its much harder to get away from these.

Re: 1-2 NL: bad luck or donkey play?
Buy in full.
But to answer your question: Bad luck. First hand is 100% standard (even with a full stack). Second hand is also standard given stack sizes. Check-raise is standard when checking to the PFRR. Well played. |

Re: 1-2 NL: bad luck or donkey play?
First hand: Happens to everybody. Nothing you can do there.
Second hand: He's telling you he has you beat. In your own words, he has tight preflop stats, so when he re-raises you preflop, bets on the flop, & then goes all in after you checkraise him...shows alot of strength. |
