I would have at least considered checking the flop.

The reason being that if I bet and get called I have very little information about my opponents holding. Flush draw, straight draw, just seeing if I'll 2nd barrel when he's holding 88.

Also, since I only have 1 opponent I'm not too worried about free cards....opponent would have to have the exact draw AND hit it. And given that I think his range has a significant portion of small PP in it letting a free card isn't costly (only 2 outer). And given that the other portion of his range that calls a bet has pretty good equity we don't make a ton of EV (an opponent with a good draw has roughly 23% equity so betting 3/4 potish doesn't gain us many skanlnsky bucks)

Moral, I consider checking the flop, and trying to extract as much as possible from a hand like 88.

Thoughts welcomed

checking the flop isn't the best way to extract money from 88...

Can we assume that we should only attempt to get 1 or 2 ~3/4 pot bets from an 88 type hand?

Meh, I think if people are open limping mid pairs they aren't going to all of a sudden hop out of their seat out of position and lead out great flops.
