I dont understand why everyone is talking about how many people they know MAKING xxxx money.

Isnt the more important question how many young people love playing poker that will never put in the time to become a winning player but will keep playing higher stakes as tehy get older and get jobs and stuff?

I would say there are a TON of ppl from my HS/College that fit into that second category.

[/ QUOTE ]problem is you can only deposit a few hundred $ at a time on most (all?) sites

hopefully that will not still be the case by the time these HS and college kids have some real money to dump.

also my roomate deposited 2000 on a site last week no problem, before that I didnt think it was possible anymore either.

In my circles, poker was more popular 3 years ago.

I'm from Portugal (next to spain, for those who don't know), am 19 years old and on the 2nd year of college.

As it has been said, poker is booming here. I'd assume more than 50% of the guys in my college know how to play (would be close to 0% 2 years ago). Allmost all of them play only casual games (<$10 buyin). I only know 1-2 guys who play to make money, and they play NL25 NL50 online. Having discovered poker less than a year ago, ive made my way up to NL100 - NL200.

It's not particularly seen as cool, but when i talk to people about how much money people are making with online poker, they all become surprised, so its not un-cool either.

I'd say the poker boom is getting here. Its been 6 month since poker in Casinos has been legislated, there is only one casino in the country ~300km away from the biggest city, which runs a NL500 table pretty much every day

I'm a little bit older than this target group, (young professional), but two observations:

I know of at least two people a couple years behind me in school who are know at least semi-pro (one was full pro, but decided he liked coaching HS sports so stopped playing as much. The other is something of a FTP baller from what I can tell). Additionally, there are a few HS kids here making mid-5 figures at donkaments.

The other is that once people find out I play a little it is ridiculously easy for me to find home games, with tons of people playing. And they are all awful.

In my experience young people who get into online poker, REALLY get into it.

I'm not saying they play well, but often. They give me between $50 and a few hundred, they donk off repeat. On the off chance of big score, the guys tend to donk it off at higher stakes and blame it on running bad.

Yea the popularity of poker seems to be declining. Back in high school I would try to get a poker game at every waking moment, now we play like once or twice a week in the summer. My friends at school don't really have much interest in playing live poker. A few years ago we would play 10 or 20 dollar games, but now we never play.

If I had to guess how many people can make 100k a year at Illinois I would say about 10.
