push....? THe big stack's range is pretty wide. There is a good chance he'll fold to your raise anyway.

What would you like to do here?
There's only one that I won't hit you for... (I'll give you a hint... it's push) |

I'm not sure I want him to fold . [/ QUOTE ] I would sure want him to fold. I could see the logic of smooth calling with AA/KK, although id still push them. However im pretty sure with QQ here you want to make the play that gives you the highest chance to win this hand. That play is going all in. |

Re: $22S: QQ vs short stack push w/ one caller
Easy push,
UTG+1 range : pair 55-JJ, AT+, suited broadway since he just called. Grabbing that ~1000 is much better than seeing A/K on flop OOP and shutting down. |

I'm not sure I want him to fold . [/ QUOTE ] Well, you don't want him to see a free flop either. His money is already in, so if you call, he basically see the flop for free. Once he sees the flop, he'll probably only put in the rest of his stack if he's beating you. He'll often fold if he flops nothing and you bet into a dry side pot. By pushing, you win whether he calls or folds. If he has a hand like AJ, he can either fold and give up his equity in the pot without a fight, or he can call with a worse hand. Either way is +EV for you. Standard Theory of Poker stuff. |

Re: $22S: QQ vs short stack push w/ one caller
yeah, for the record I pushed without much thought, but then started questioning if it was really the best play.
Thanks for the comments, CT |

Re: $22S: QQ vs short stack push w/ one caller
overpush. at higher stakes I might consider calling & going for a check-down. but what do i know-- this is my first post...
