Default NLHTP#41 Concepts&Weapons: 45-46

Concept #45: Know when a hand (even a good one) has more value as a bluff catcher.

There are two ways to make money with a good hand: bet it and get called by a weak hand, and check it and get your opponent to bet a weaker hand. When you value bet, you can profit only when your opponent calls. If he folds, you win nothing. Instead, you may want to check, hoping to induce a bluff.

Concept #46: Don't just think about what you put your opponent on. Think about what they put you on also.

Think about what your opponent might put you on, and you'll turn some tough decisions into easy ones.

Yep. If you are the preflop raiser, and there is an Ace on the board, and you face a raise at any point in the hand postflop, he's usually telling you he can beat AK.

I think Im gonna write a theory post on this with a hand I played recently. Im sure a good amount of medium to high stake guys already understand 2nd level thinking but Im sure a lot of micro and low level players might not. Would anyone would interested?

2nd that, and this 'weapon' was very obviously not used when I used to play 100NL 6max when people would insta push the river and it didnt make any sence, so it was an obvious bluff. God those games where funny [censored].

I'd like to see that. Conventional wisdom is that at the micros you don't need that "'cause the donkeys don't think that far anyway", but i think that's wrong. First-level thinking in your opponents may be crude and flawed at NL25, but that doesn't mean it's not there.
