1. Strength - Hand reading and knowing how best to extract value from opponents.
2. Weakness - Tilting too easily from bad beats. Also 'robotting', getting into the rhythm where you just play and dont really think about it. 3. Goal - Play my A game more. Suffer less bad beats. (I'll qualify 3. with the statement that I have run really, really bad, for long periods of time. This has been a somewhat constant frustration, especially because it causes me to tilt, which makes me lose more. It's a vicious cycle.) |

Hi guys.
I'm Rob - I'll hopefully be helping out Superman with the facilitation of this study group. My answers: Strength: I have a very good grip on the math, and I can do calculations quickly at the table. Weakness: Post flop play, especially against aggro opponents. Goal: To retain and apply what I learn from NLTAP at the poker table; to translate the theory into useable knowledge and to put that knowledge to work. Regarding Part II of the book: I think we should all get through part one together and see how we collectively feel about Part II. I've read the book before (but didn't retain a whole lot - see goal above) and can tell you that Part II has a TON of information in a short amount of space. Part I takes concepts and elaborates on them, fully explaining and citing examples. Part II fires concepts at you from an automatic weapon. For this reason, I think Part II is more difficult to discuss. That's just my $.02 and I think we should decide as a group when we get there. When I read the book the first time (almost a year ago) I was much more of a tournament player than a cash game player. I'm currently trying to make the transition to play more cash games. I'm really looking forward to taking this book and applying it specifically to micro-limit cash games (in my mind uNL means $5NL online, $10NL online, $25NL online, and $1/$2NL live). I wouldn't be surprised if there are concepts that we discuss and decide can't really be applied to uNL because the opposition doesn't think on a high enough level. I think we will also be surprised as to how much of the material does apply to uNL, despite how advanced it is. I'm really looking forward to this summer reading project and the discussion with you guys. |

1. What do you consider your biggest poker strength? Valuebetting. 2. What do you consider your biggest weakness? Overplaying hands (valuebetting toooo thin). MAKING THIN CALLS. Do this way too often in the wrong spot. Not thinking through hands enough ([censored] UB timer gets me a lot though). Most importantly, I just need to play an ABC game more often and my crazy game less often and I'd probably do much better. 3. What do you hope to get out of this discussion? I just thought the thread sounded cool. I don't really expect to get much out of it. I probably won't be involved that much in the discussions also. Goals for my game should include: (1) playing better in reraised pots. (2) Manipulating and understanding my image. My biggest leak is probably putting too much weight on my image. [/ QUOTE ] |
