I have Bose QC2's (received as a gift) and Sennheiser HD555s (bought myself) and they each have their ups and downs. The Senn's sound quality is better by far; but, the noise cancelling on the QC2's is pretty nifty in loud environments, you can play them somewhat loudly without pissing off everyone within 20 feet of you, and they come with a carrying case in which you can actually carry them around somewhat easily.

Sennheiser makes a noise canceling headphone as well. You can't really give the BOSE good marks on something that Sennheiser does just as well if you get the right model.
