Struggling Matching Bets with Pockets
I have pocket 7's. Someone at the table raises 150-200 chips out of say 1500. How to I discern wheather they have high pockets or A-K as an example or pockets 5's. How do I get over the hump and play and at least match their bet. I think it might be the 'fear' of losing the chips that tends to hold me back unless I'm almost out of chips. Wisdom as to how to get over this poker fear?

Re: Struggling Matching Bets with Pockets
If you're holding pocket pairs, you can call any preflop bet up to 11% of the villain's or your stack (whichever is smaller) if you think that when you hit trips you'll get them AI.
Of course you want to take into account the villain's PFR % as well, big raises from low PFR means trouble. This can work in your favor as well though as they are less likely to lay down their great hand when you do hit. If you don't hit, get out. |
