Anyone who criticized this kid is a douche bag. He speaks and writes two languages which is more than I can say for the rest of you nits.

I think that a lot of you have been locked in a dark room in front of a couple of monitors and have forgot how to interact with people.

In Europe, students are introduced to other languages very early on in school.

In most school districts in the US this isn't the case.

We didn't have Spanish and French until 7th grade.

I took Spanish for 6 yrs from 7-12th grade, and I still suck at it, but I think if I'd begun in 2nd grade I'd be pretty much fluent.

I wish my highschool/college papers could be one page. I haven't written a paper under 15 pages in 3 years.

Wow guys, the least you can do is give the kid a few pointers. Here is a list of words/phrases that MUST be used in every good english essay:

motif
hillarity ensued
cogent
underpinning(s)
intergalactic planetary

Find a way to work each of these in and you're sure to hit 99 next time.

Considering that English is a second language, guys, this is really standard for a second language essay. The grammar is pretty good and the story, despite it's obvious poker-lexicon problems, is nice. Some high school kid went to the casino and flopped quads, made $$, and wrote an ESL essay about it. Yay. Feel good story, sincerely shared, I don't mind this at all.

i'm an esl teacher in taiwan, and can tell you that your english is excellent. sure we can pick out a little grammar mistake here or there, but really, who cares? 90% of the posts on this board are not as well written, and anyone hating on you is doing so only because this, it seems, is what bbv is all about.

btw, i would have graded you a little higher, but i don't know what quality work your peers do. that being said, i understood all of your points, and isn't that what language is for? really, you should see some of the crap i get from your age group here in taiwan. it would make your head spin!
