Default $600NL AJo OOP

This hand is interesting (I think). Will post my thoughts later.

Villain is sLAG type, opens very wide in late position, can fire multiple barrels, you know the type. Only relevant history this session is that I have 3-bet him a few times, shown down crap once and then we got it in PF my AK vs. his TT. Other than 3-betting him a bit my image is solid I think.

Anyway, the hand.

Stacks $700

He raises from button I flat call in BB with AJo.

Flop ($51) J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

He bets $40 I call.

Turn is q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I c/c $85

River is 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet $200 into $300.

Comments on all streets?

3-bets pre-flop, I dont really like the river, he'll prob lay down hands you are beating and call with everything else.

Agree with this.
This hand almost proves why you don't want to be smooth-calling AJo pf against this aggro guy.

What's the point of the river bet? If it was meant to be a blocking bet, 'cause you think he'll pot it, that doesn't fly. There's no hand he can call you with.

Also, this is the type of flop where you want to be check-raising against a thinking player. He'll call the check-raise with med PPs, smaller Jacks, and then check it down, taking away positional advantage that he uses with agression, and setting up the check-raise with air that you should be doing on this type of flop.

AJo isn't a great hand to 3-bet with imo.

Against a loose raiser who will fire one & sometimes two/three streets with whatever he raised with I think calling is far better. This is one of the reasons I posted this hand as it obviously goes pretty strongly against conventional wisdom.

On the river I'm pretty sure I'm ahead and never getting called by worse. But trust me this opponent is folding a Q here every time so it was a 'just in case' bet.

He's also very rarely bluffing this on that river card imo. Not sure when you put all of this together whether betting is better than checking, but there you go.

Ok, you still think betting is your best option here?

I've never made any money calling these kinds of guys down. I personally like a C/R on the flop here.

preflop is fine. 3betting is not bad either. i probably c/c a smallish river bet.

I don't like a flop CR here. I think he pushes better hands and draws and folds pretty much everything I beat.

What would you do different on the turn?
