Default junky middle pair gets raised on turn

New to 6max. I'm assuming I've got to play these kinds of hands now if I don't want to donate my blinds, but...

Hero has T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the BB

folds, Button (no read) calls, SB (loose) calls, hero checks

flop (3 players, 3 SB): 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
SB checks, hero BETS, Button calls, SB folds

turn (2 players, 2.5 BB): 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Hero BETS, Button RAISES, Hero ???

I'm seeing a lot more turn raises than ever before. I've gotten frustrated and called down with my whiffed AJ to lose pretty consistently. Am I good against a random player 1/4 of the time? After a while I found that he's a 35/5/1, would that change the play?

I'd generally want to show it down, but the small pot here makes me waffle -- still, I usually call/call which may be a leak. If we knew he was passive, then I would be more inclined to let it go on the turn.

Usually, I call the turn and check/fold the river, as I would expect this river to get checked through a decent %.

But seeing as you hold the 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] it seems much less likely to be a free showdown raise with anything that you beat.

Dump it.

What kinds of hands would be going for a free showdown raise? 89s, 78s? And can you assume that play is in the repertoire of your average players?

And would you call with A8 here?

(thanks!)
