Carole King [/ QUOTE ] How is this not the first name on your list? I usually despise stupid message-board cliches, but seriously... /thread. SpaceAce |

[ QUOTE ] Carole King [/ QUOTE ] this is possibly the only correct answer. the amount of hits that she wrote is insane [/ QUOTE ] Must be the correct answer. Only other one I can think of is Cynthia Weill. Actually I can't believe how few of my favorite albums are by female artists. I kind of like some stuff by Pj Harvey. Same goes for Cat Power/Chan Marshall. I hate Björk. Madonna is ok at times. So is Joni Mitchell. Tracy Chapman's debut was great but that was it for her. Gillian Welch is someone who is definitely a personal favorite of mine. Joanna Newsom who so many adore at the moment, should be shot. |

Fiona Apple [/ QUOTE ] absolutely correct, incredibly original, unique song writer. bottom line she is a poet and what sets her apart are her arrangements (with help from people like Jon Brion), not like any typical pop chick songs, plus her phrasing and rhyming style of her words are not like the typical pop female vocalist. basically what sets her apart: originality and passion joni mitchell, second |
