I'd heard the name but didn't know who it was. Boy was I surprised when I found out it's not even a person!

I've seen Sixteen Candles but wouldn't have remembered who Jake Ryan was if Family Guy hadn't spoofed it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh yeah, that's where it comes from. I'll have to watch Sixteen Candles now.

Wow I feel old.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are likely many in today's generation who haven't seen the John Hughes films like Sixteen Candles (as well as Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club).

These were pretty much required viewing for my generation.
Lots of 30-40 year-olds out there who could still probably recite every line while viewing them.

I have seen Sixteen Candles more than I have seen any other movie, probably more than 100 times. I had a big group of friends in high school and we always ended up at someone's house watching Sixteen Candles. At one point, I'm pretty sure I could have recited the entire movie from memory.

Jake, is your father a big man?
About 6-4.
Very nice.

Anyway, I instantly knew who Jake Ryan was, but I had no idea that "Jake Ryan" is now synonymous with "Perfect Boyfriend." Boy do I feel old.

Jake? Wait a minute, I thought she said his name was Rudy.

I'll stop now.

For me it was Cindy Mancini.

Edit - after reading OP's meaning of "Jake Ryan" I went the wrong route in my answer. I thought he was getting at the popular one everyone wanted to be with, but if we are going for the perfect prototypical girlfriend type....

It would be Boof or Simone.

[/ QUOTE ]

The two brunettes were hotter than Cindi Mancini in "Can't Buy me Love". One of the best 80's movies around by the way.

Little Seth Green in CBML

"Cards with the Tards, what could be better a night of chips, dips, and dorks."
classic line right there.

And yes, I knew who Jake Ryan was as most 30 somethings do.

Why would Cindy Mancini be the perfect girlfriend? "Can't Buy Me Love" was a pretty ironic title because that's exactly what McDreamy did, buy her love. For $1,000.

Whore.

This might have gone better if you had pointed out that you were talking about a fictional character.

Drew - Like I said I don't think she was the perfect gf, like you in your post before I didn't know Jake Ryan was now synonymous with the perfect boyfriend.

That's why I then edited my comment to say Boof or Simone as the perfect girlfriend.

You need more choices like: "I think so and I'm a male." I am not at all certain about this, but I believe he is either an actor or a character from one of the Brat Pack movies. I'm leaning toward Sixteen Candles. However, like I said, I have no clue if Jake Ryan is the name of the character or the actor.
