Vodka
Lime juice Tomato juice Tobasco or cayenne pepper Crushed cilantro Some soda water if you want A little salt and pepper Kind of like a Bloody Mary but it tastes kind of like salsa with the cilantro and lime juice. Great drink to have with Mexican food. |

rubbing alcohol and sprite...watched two "native americans" drinking this a while back when i was on vacation...they drank it until they passed out (and probably died).
on a serious note: another mexican food favorite, pour a bottle of corona in a beer glass, top off with a shot of bacardi limon and lemon/lime wedge. |

Would vodka + gatorade be hangover-proof? I've wondered for awhile.

about ten years ago i was garde manger at a decent restaurant in vancouver. one of the sous chefs there is one of those unforgettables: probably 350-400 lbs, hawaiian guy named Lance. used one knife, a cleaver, for absolutely everything, including the boning of quail!
anyway, he enjoyed his vodka infusions, and one he made i'll never forget. he infused vodka with strawberries and habanero! it was really interesting - first you get a light strawberry on your palette, very delicate, and then the intense flavor of the habanero hit. thirty or so seconds after drinking the shot, the heat starts. radiating waves of ever-increasing depths of pain. nothing, and i mean nothing, helped allevitiate the burning. bananas? nope. yoghourt? nope. ice? temporarily. it was about a half hour before my mouth returned to normal. obv. i'm not recommending this, but if you're looking to get revenge on someone, this is a nice legal way. on topic, a bartender i once knew swore by vodka coke. i always thought it was stupid, until i tried it. lo tech ftw. a raspberry infused vodka coke is also excellent, but maybe too sweet. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I've seen it about (though never in a bar), usually referred to as a "long mile" I believe. |

So, I don't think there should have been any doubt, but El D wins at this thread. His vodka/mint/basil/lime concoction was very good. I made it with 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz lime, a tsp of sugar, and about 6 leaves each of fresh basil and mint, muddling, and then adding soda water to top up my glass. I was somewhat skeptical about basil in a drink, but it worked out great. I think my proportions weren't quite perfect, though. I think I'll make another w/ 3 oz vodka, 1 oz lime juice, a little more mint, and the same of everything else. Since I do customarily provide a pic of drinks I review, enjoy:

Update: A little more vodka, lime, and mint was just the thing.

[/ QUOTE ] sounds like a basil mojita with vodka instead of rum, (well i guess it is a commpletely different drink, lol) ps - I tried the chartreuse, cointreau, and vodka. it was interesting. I have to say I am not a huge chartreuse fan, and boy does that stuff have a strong flavor. If you're a chartreuse fan give it a try. |
