Ong Bak: Thai Warrior
Tony Jaa is amazing.

QFMFT. He puts Jet Li to shame IMO. Sadly "The Protector" isn't as good (although you should only watch the International Version, the US Version sucks so badly). Luckily they are making a sequel to Ong Bak.

I'm not entirely sure it fits the point of the thread but I've always thought Once Upon a Time In America deserves to be in the same breath as The Godfather, Goodfellas, etc. etc. My others would include:
Poolhall Junkies
Brick
Ken Park
12 Monkeys

ever wonder were Sublime found this?

"She was living in a single room with three other individuals. One of them was a male, and the other two, well the other two were females. God only knows what they were up to in there... and furthermore, Susan, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that all four of them habitually smoked marijuana cigarettes... reefers. "

Roger Ebert wrote this. It was gut bustingly funny.

"You're a broad, Z-man! A f*cking ugly broad! No, Z-man! Nooooooooooo!"

this doesn't even come close to fitting the purpose of this thread. this is one of eastwood's classic films. If this doesn't get talked about, then Dirty Harry is barely known

[/ QUOTE ]

talked about by who???
whats the point of knocking other peoples' posts in this thread? just curious.

also, thanks for the recommendations - samurai stuff and abby hoffman are right up my alley

I posted about this in The Lounge, but I think it also applies to this thread as I have never found anyone else who has seen it.

id never heard of it and thought it was really, really good. was gonna make a post on it. dont know anyone else who has seen it.

I've seen it, it's good and entertaining.

My entries for this thread:
Gattaca
The Lives of Others
The Quiet (one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, but only after watching the parody clips on youtube... it was written and shot as a comedy but unfortunately cut and scored as a thriller, f-ing studios)
American Splendor

"The Lives of Others" is amazing. In Europe it's definitely one of the most talked about movies though, and didn't it win an Oscar too?

"Gattaca" I remember liking too.
Bad Lieutenant who someone else mentioned is awesome.

My choices:

Underground (imo greatest movie of all time)

The City Of Lost Children

The Hudsucker Proxy (Kind of the forgotten Coen movie. I think it's their best)

Europa
(Von Trier's first great movie.)

Tierra

Carne Trémula
(Almodovar is amazing. This one has everything that's Almodovar)

Le Locataire/The Tenant
(Kind of forgotten too. Probably not Polanski's best but one of my favorites. He plays the lead character himself too)

Caché
(Haneke has been one of the best european film makers in recent years. This was his latest. Great thriller.)

Tesis/Snuff
(Another great thriller. Amenábar.)

Croupier
(Yes it's flawed but this is very enjoyable noir and Clive Owen is great.)

Fear X

Shaun of the Dead

- but admittedly, my circle probably wouldn't be the best judge of how much a movie was talked about.

My girlfriend talked me into buying that one. I didn't think I would like it but it was very fun.
