View: Lightning Poker - No Thank You
Excerpt from this CardPlayer article:
[ QUOTE ] No dealers, no cards, no chips, just poker at “lightning” speed. The Commerce Casino has announced an agreement with Lightning Poker to install its electronic tables. Players at Commerce will soon be able use Lightning Poker’s tables. They are fully automated, eliminating dealing time and errors. Players use touch screens to make their actions. The tables also provide calculated pots that are displayed in real time and offer hand history and statistics. [/ QUOTE ] So to be clear, the only difference between online poker and "Lightning Poker" will be the fact that you're sharing a physical table with your opponents? Aside from novelty purposes, I have no interest in this new form of the game. To me, most of the appeal of live poker is the chips to riffle, the hole cards to squeeze a look at, the human dealers and their inherent mistakes. Taking these elements out of live poker is akin to taking umpires out of baseball and replacing them with pitch deciphering machines that are never wrong. In my opinion, making the game more efficient and irrefutable does not necessarily enhance the experience. I hope these Lightning Poker tables do not garner too much popularity. |

I guess these are similar to the PokerTek tables?

Wow, I'm an online player, and I've played at the Commerce, I wholeheartedly disagree with this decision. Sadly enough the Commerece was the highlight of my trip to L.A., and yes I didn't see enough.

Re: View: Lightning Poker - No Thank You
They have these at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.. Anyone who was at the Aussie Millions would have seen them. Im a regular at crown and I despise these tables. They are called Poker Pro here and they are pretty much a low limit solution for casino players. Here players can sit at $1/$2 NL with $10 - $60. The good thing is tho, they have HU tables. They don't other HU with dealers at Crown..

Re: View: Lightning Poker - No Thank You
the rake at the aussie ones was ridiculous iirc, but otherwise they seemed somewhat cool. Also, what does "irrefutable" mean in the context of the OP?

Re: View: Lightning Poker - No Thank You
It is a problem that many of the reliable live tells depend on how people interact with their pyhsical environment, and hence this does detract from the appeal of live play somewhat.

Re: View: Lightning Poker - No Thank You
You don't think the live tells have any connection to the number of variables at the poker table?
