It's a pretty weak play, notice he relaxes his bet each street... I'm not sure why you never raised.

Re: $16: 88 overpair bvb early
This seems pretty standard, but because of how weak the pair is, a raise on the flop might be appropriate. I use this line a lot, though.

Re: $16: 88 overpair bvb early
I have to say I am really shocked at the passive play. Knowing that finnisher is a winning player with a really good ROI, I find myself questioning what I "know" about playing SNGs.
How is this not a raise preflop? Raise to 80. How is this not a raise on the flop or turn? It just seems like you're asking to be drawn out on. I'm baffled by this line. Am I playing mid pocket pairs too aggressively in early stages? I just don't see how a check is the correct play against an open limper from the small blind. I don't understand any of the actions at any of the stages (except for the river call). The only thing I can think of is the idea that you don't want to risk your chips in marginal situations early in the tournament. But this doesn't seem to be marginal. The whole line feels really weak. |

Flop is okay if you think SB will continue betting with a worse hand and you'll call down, like you did.

Re: $16: 88 overpair bvb early
normally, I raise t80 preflop and make it t180 on the flop
I would raise to t300 on the turn call river as played.. |

I don't dislike it but I prefere raising the turn.

Re: $16: 88 overpair bvb early
I like generally, but I would probably raise flop. I tend to bet/raise over pairs.

I raise preflop.
I might raise flop. Turn and river are standard. |

Re: $16: 88 overpair bvb early
Raise preflop, On the flop I’ve got to raise against this board. He’s leading out on the flop so he’s still confident, a scare card of J+ could easily fit into his range. I’ll echo what someone else mentioned about you being a winning player, I’m just not understanding the logic of “why” you picked this line. Would love to hear your thoughts….
