Default No-content first post

Very brief background: I make money playing poker, especially the last couple of months, and it's virtually entirely due to reading (though not contributing to) these forums. (The contribution deficiency will change). This post however, is about why I find RudeboyOI's posts so appealing, almost hypnotic.

It's because it's poetry. Examples -

From the almost Haiku-esque simplicity:

To the abstract:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showth...ue#Post10183936

To the almost Shakespearian(can you feel the way he's dancing around the iambic structure?):

(I especially like "I'd take the immediate lead and 3bet the flop" - like freaking hamlet was at a 20-40 table.)

The slightly cheesey, inspirational poem (catch the rhyme in this one?):

I urge you to go and read his posts as if they were intended as poetry - if you can't absolutely hear Billy Collins' voice reciting them, well then, I guess I'm crazy.

(youtube video featuring billy collins, by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrEPJh14mcU )

Thanks, by the way, for the substantial amount of knowledge and insight there is to be gained from all the thoughtful posts on these boards

cheers, hslater

hslater --

Welcome!

What's so intruiging is that the implied syncope -- "I'd take the immediate lead..." is, from the intense pressure of the surrounding iambs, read more like "I'd take th'immediate lead..." and thus the structure of the line evokes the immediacy of the recommended action.

I couldn't have hoped for a better first response. You could write an undergrad English paper on that line using your post as a thesis and pretty much assure yourself an A

hslater --

Thanks. (But plenty of TAs these days are pretty hostile to formalism/structuralism.)

Well, assuming you meant Teaching assistants and not tight aggressives(as I read it the first time) - you could always work in the author has eschewed actually using the syncope to purposefully reconstruct the rhythm of the line - hence hinting at but ultimately disregarding classicism.

Yeah, the second one, the abstract, was pretty good. I think this guy must know who I am.

Who's "this guy"? If it's me... do we know each other? If it's hslater, never mind.

What I meant, actually, is that I think RudeboyOI must know who I am. I've seen a couple of major hints.

I don't think you and I know each other. I played one week at Commerce, 40/80, so it is possible we may have played at the same table. But I don't think we know each other.
