Also, conservatories are instrument dependent when it comes to strength. i.e. - A case could be made that Cleveland Institute of Music has a better trumpet department than Julliard. Also, if memory serves, Cleveland State has an excellent percussion program since the percussionist with the Cleveland Orchestra teaches there - but they really don't have a string program in any other area.

Well we went to school in SoCal (Irvine) so I don't know. I'm not much of a music person so Juliard is like THE school for me because that's what all Asian kids tell their kids where they want them to end up when they pick up the violin when they're 3.

Mario on Piano- Arranged by Martin Leung

oh yea...he's BLINDFOLDED for the first part.

[/ QUOTE ]

I only listened to the first few minutes.

He misses a few notes with the blindfold (hitting adjacent keys) and also his time is less than mechanical within the first tune. This my be intentional - but usually video game music (especially something like Mario) is performed close to the original (no rubato, few flowery musical considerations).

The last section at 9:18 is a typical ragtime approach to piano playing- although he does go fast!

Also, the blindfold isn't too note-worthy. There are several blind virtuoso pianists:

Leo Kottke is amazing. Go see him in person if at all possible.
This one is pretty old but you can see both of his hands on the 12 string. He might even play better now.

Vaseline Machine Gun

A little newer on the 6 string

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone can think of any movies or concert DVDs that have a great, high energy, rock-n-roll type duel between electric guitarists or something like that. Like where there's a regular verse/chorus thing, and then when they break it down two guitarists go at it, one taking a solo for a minute or so, then the other guy stepping up and trying to top that solo.

Anything?
