Default Chip Dumping. Big Edge?

I’ve been hearing in all the magazines that one of the most popular forms of cheating is chip dumping in tournaments. But they never tell you exactly how these cheats operate and exactly how they gain their edge.

In a non-rebuy tournament I was wondering, does a person really have a big edge by getting a partner to dump chips to him in the middle of a tournament?

He is paying for two buy-ins and he gets his partners chips. I don’t see no huge edge except that he gets to play a big stack. Is it really that big of an advantage to get a big stack where it would be worth it to setup a chip dump?

The only advantage I could see is late tournament when both players are short on chips. One could dump his chips to the other to give one of them a shot at winning. Please share your views and opinions. I would like to become more informed and aware of this cheating so I can identify it when I’m playing.

Thanks,
Paul

Default Re: Chip Dumping. Big Edge?

Assume a good player buys into a $10,000 tournament, his EV in the tourney will be more than 10k, possibly 20k, or 50k.

IF his EV is 50k, if he were to pay another $10k to have twice as many chips, his EV would now approach 100k(2*50k)
