I've been around tons of pit bulls some bad, but mostly good though. One of my friends has a pit that's from a famous breeding line and he's making good money putting the male out to stud. He's sold a few to NBA players/rappers etc.

I think, just like with any other dog/pet, the owner has everything(or at least a heck of a lot) to do with temperament. We crack up at the Cali thing of trying to eradicate them. I have so many friends with tons of pit/pit mixes roaming their proprerties in Humboldt and Mendo that the idea of getting rid of them all is kind of a joke.

So regardless of what anyone feels about a breed or how pretty one thinks it is, whatever, the fact remains that genetics are very much at play. Just because you can make a dog better or worse doesn't mean it doesn't already have inherent tendencies. You can't "train" genes. Even if you thought you knew how.

Many fighting breeds make great pets because they have their human aggression purposely bred out of them. They are still always going to be a danger to other animals though.

A Staffordshire is not a Pit Bull...it says so right in your Wiki link.
"The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is an English breed of dog and should not be confused with their larger cousin the American Staffordshire Terrier or the American Pit Bull Terrier."

for what its worth my friend has a weiner dog (dockson?) and a pit. The dockson will bite if you take its toy the pit will let you take it.. not aggressive at all because he is taken care of. Now from what I have heard the pit got loose one day and attacked the neighbors cat and my friend (big dude seen the man bench sets of 300+ ) said he had to basically choke the dog out to control him

Other friend has a pit I wouldnt go near it since it is breed as a prize fighter (grand champ)

its all in upbringing

most aggressive dog behavior can be untrained. there are certainly dogs that become dog or human aggressive and wont ever turn back, but as far as it being bred into them, i'm not sure how plausible that is.

the dogs like pit bulls that you hear being absolutely insane and unpredictable is almost always due to inbreeding, not an actual aggro trait.
