JJ on AQx board
Setting is 8 or 9 handed 40/80 at the local casino.
I'm in the SB and probly have a TAG image. EP+1 is a LAG player who has been raising preflop lots and can get aggressive postflop, but he's not much a factor in this hand. LP is a NL player who decided to give this game a shot and has been playing a bit loose/passive. He limps a lot in late position first one in and been cold calling lots of raises. EP+1 raises, LP calls, I 3-bet JdJh in the SB. BB folds, other 2 call. Flop comes As Qh 3d. I bet, EP+1 folds, LP calls. Turn comes 7c. I...? Also, how should my strategy change if the flop and turn had come: As Qh 3s - 7c or As Qh 3s - 7s Thanks for any replies. |

Re: JJ on AQx board
i think there is a decent chance here he has a broadway draw like KJ, KT, JT. you may even get him to fold a Queen if you fire the second barrel since he is a NL player new to limit.
i would fire again on the turn (folding to a raise obviously) and check the river and fold if he bets. or simply check fold the turn if you feel like he wouldn't stab here without having u beat. |

The question is, do you frequently check raise the turn? If you don't, you have a bigger problem. You have a rainbow flop here. Your opponent is obviously not on a flush draw. Your opponent needs a KJ, KT, or JT to be on a straight draw. He would have been getting 7 to 1 to call on the flop with a four outer... maybe. You are in a lose, lose situation. He knows you are aggressive. It would be foolish of him to to raise if he has an A or Q with a poor kicker because you won't fold a better hand. But you might keep on betting an inferior one if he just calls. And if you check, you may be giving a free card to a good draw, or be giving him an opportunity to bluff you out of the pot. It is hands like this where you can see the wisdom of Caro's position on raising in the blinds. I would have likely done the same. Pocket jacks suck. |

Re: JJ on AQx board
I ended up check/folding the turn, but it felt kinda weak. My read when he bet was that he was betting for protection/value rather than as a bluff, although I have no idea if I was right.
I think I like Chris Daddy Cool's suggestion of bet/folding the turn and check/folding the river. Also, for the scenario where there is a flush draw on the flop, if the turn doesn't bring a flush card (or King), this should definitely push me in favor of betting the turn right? |
