Re: Changing seats at the Table
[ QUOTE ]
I usually answer with something regarding the luck of the seat. ... IOW, don't always believe what you hear. [/ QUOTE ] I usually say something about wanting a better view to see their pretty face (if moving towards the center), or wanting more room to stack my future mountain of chips (if towards the end). And I'm pretty sure I'd know if someone was really moving for 'luck' or not, no matter what they said. I always like hearing "I want his seat!" when I start racking up to leave. Means I picked the right table. Tho' all the racks mean that, too. |

Yeah, you're right, I googled it. I don't think I've watched that movie in it's entirety for maybe 15 years though, because I still can't remember that scene. [/ QUOTE ] VTB |

Re: Changing seats at the Table
My 10 year old son recently began getting interested in poker. (Yet another thing his mother can blame me for...) I just explained "Hot Seat Theory" to him. His reponse? "That's stupid. Each hand is different."
A 10 year old kid can grasp this simple fact... |

Re: Changing seats at the Table
I nominate OP for the post of the year. Wonderful logic, meticulously calculated and inspiring to us all. A clear 10 out of 10.
To add a little non-nonsensical reasoning: As others have said, I often use hot seat/cold seat to explain why I am changing seats at the table. However, most often I am moving because (clearly not in the true order of importance): (1) the guy next to me smells or is really annoying, (2) the Yankee game is on and I want to be able to see the TV, or (3) I am moving out of a bad position relative to a good player or moving into a good position relative to a bad player. If I am lucky, it's all three. |

Re: Changing seats at the Table
Alright... I'm gunna hijack this thread.
I was hoping for a better question than something about hot seats. When I play, I generally play at very small local casinos. They usually have between 2-4 tables playing. If the game isn't well suited for me and there aren't any seats open to change to at the table where I am playing and there are no alternative tables, what would some good choices? Leave the casino? Take a break? What else? One other thing that I've run into is the places that I play have a hierarchy to the tables. If I'm playing at table 1 (the main table) they don't like it if I try to switch to table 2 (or 2 down to 3). If you decide that you want to play at a different table in this situation what should you do? |

[/ QUOTE ] About fifteen years ago in a 15/30 holdem at The Normandie in Gardena I'm in the five seat. I've always been physically uncomfortable in the middle seat so I'm thinking about changing if I get a chance. All of a sudden I go on a bit of a rush. Now a guy in the one seat remarks, "That's a lucky seat". I respond, "Is it worth $50 to you?" He says sure and tosses me ten yellow chips (for you Foxwood people yellow is $5 in LA) so we switch seats. Now I really go on a rush making if memory serves about two or three more racks. Within an hour the guy who gave me the $50 was busted. I didn't bother giving a refund. ~ Rick |

Re: Changing seats at the Table
Does everyone hate it when the hot seat is the most uncomfortable seat at the table, say a collapsible chair that’s replacing a recently broken comfortable chair. Now this could just be variance but the last couple of hot seats I’ve been in have been the uncomfortable one’s.
I’d like to hear from others on this topic. |

Re: Changing seats at the Table
If the cards had memory maybe there would be wisdom here, but they don't. I switch tables for an end seat or if there is some significant strategic reason to do so, otherwise I let the cards come. They even out over time.
