Default JJ versus unknown

Villain was unknown, I had only been at the table for a few hands. I think I made a mistake by checking the turn but I seem to have playing JJ on boards like this. Does villain have overpair (didn't think so-no raise prelop), trips? Do I call river? This is my first hand post, pick it apart.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $1 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB ($66.50)
UTG ($53.85)
Hero ($88.55)
CO ($18.55)
Button ($39.15)
SB ($51.40)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
UTG calls $1, Hero raises to $4, 3 folds, BB calls $3, UTG calls $3.

Flop: ($12.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $11, BB folds, UTG calls $11.

Turn: ($34.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks.

River: ($34.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG bets $38.85 (All-In), Hero???

Close one. He has no reason to assume that you have a pocket pair or that you connected with the board, so it wouldn't be a tough move to make with air. But I think it's also a 6 quite often, and a 5 from time to time.

I bet the turn and felt it there if that's what he's up for.

I called, villain showed 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I was expecting a 5 or a 6 and had to pay to see it but I was not expecting 85 off. Doesn't this seem like a bad play to limp and call a preflop raise with this trash hand.

Even though he was beating you on this hand, I think that you should call there. Part of the reason you check the turn is so that he'll bluff on the river with something like the busted flush draw. He hardly ever has an overpair there, TT is very unlikely because even weak players (and he IS weak) tend to raise TT rather than limp-call. Basically, to fold, you have to believe that he has one of the four remaining fives and sixes....putting him on quads or low suited connectors that got lucky and hit a boat. It's tough that you don't have any information on the guy, but I wouldn't feel bad about calling. Needless to say, you can't put him on 85o
