Phil said he gets $50k to appear at CORPORATE EVENTS. The players put up the money for PAD

Yeah, I see what you mean. Its really more of poker competition where they all start with a fixed and equal buy-in, the blinds go up at pre-determined intervals, and they keep playing as players are eliminated until eventually there is just one guy left who has all the money. Then they call that last guy the "winner" and he keeps the money used to buy in.

FWIW I never considered March Madness to be a tournament either.
