Default Where to stay cheaply near Foxwoods?

Going to Foxwoods soon. Just wondering if there are nearby towns where we can stay cheap (i.e. $50-ish). We want to save our money to donk away at the tables.

I stayed at a Motel 6 just off 95 about where you make the turn north for Mohegan when our reservation went awry.

Decent room, cheap price. Even had a very nice pool. Puts you a short like 20 min ride from the tables.

Stop by any McDonalds in the area along 95 and pick up the Motel Coupon book and then hit the Groton motel strip along 1-95 exit 86, Gold Star Highway (Rt 184) where there are four to eight great deals most of the time. You can't make a reservation with the coupon but I have used them at least ten times without having to pay more.

There are currently nine Groton motel coupons available online at Roomsaver.com but the magazine may be less expensive:

(select state=CT and town=Groton)

I went twice over the last winter and stayed once at the two trees (i think that's what it's called... the hotel that is apart of foxwoods but a shuttle ride away) for 69+ and the other for 59+. they offer a poker rate but both times the poker rate was higher than the offer they had on their website

Thanks guys, I have used that coupon book elsewhere...sounds good!

One other question...what to play?

I generally play limit 3/6 or 4/8 but am looking to go a little higher. How are these games at Foxwoods? Are there still easy pickings higher than 4/8?

thanks!

There is also a new hotel on RT 2 about 7 miles from the casino, half way between the casino and RT 95. Located right next door to the Hilltop Inn and Suites ( www.hilltopinnandsuites.com ). It is called the Bellissimo Grande, the web site is http://www.bellissimogrande.com It has a sign out front that it will match any rate, so you could get this for the price of the other hotel adds. I have never stay there, but it looks as good or better then the RT. 184 hotels. It is brand new so I am assuming it is clean Not even done with their landscaping yet.

Is that 3-6 online or live? I'm a big 5-10 w/kill guy. Be ready for the swings but I've always found them to be fun and +EV...

Game selection comes into play at 10-20 and 20-40. those games are not usually "easy pickens"

I have been staying at Econolodge in Groton on Gold Star Highway mentioned before. It is 15 minutes to Foxwoods. Rates currently are $58+tax for Friday nights (was $48+tax in March early April) on internet site. Find it via kayak.com Groton CT - you will also see other deals, some of which may be lower but a bit farther away. They have an all-night desk manager - so you can check in any time you want. They also had a deal where you got $50 off after staying 4 nights - but this may now be after 8 or 10 nights...

I play $10/$20 LHE which varies. Some Fridays/Saturdays it plays tough. Sometimes very loose. Wide range of players with many regulars.

I stayed at the new belissimo, it's actually pretty nice. plasmas in the rooms, nice beds, very clean, etc. They tried to make it look super nice but you can tell it's kind of cheap -- still, it's probably the nicest hotel in the area besides pequot. the rates aren't bad but they're about on par with decent foxwoods rates and are definitely >$50/month.

cheapy places: the super 8 in groton is surprisingly nice for a super 8. The groton inn and suites isn't too bad and is usually super cheap, but for some reason it smells moldy - more so in the lobby than the rooms though. The flagship inn and suites in groton is a dump but cheap.

There are a bunch of places in mystic that are a couple exits closer and generally nicer (holiday inn / amerisuites type places). Usually you can find good deals on hotwire, most of the 2.5* places in mystic are one of these.
