Default What kind of rake is acceptable?

Obviously, rake isn't legal in a home game. But what rake is considered acceptable?

My friends host these cash games with insane rakes. They take 10% of every pot and don't have a maximum amount. I've done the math, and realized that I should be up a lot more than I currently am. So, out of curiosity, what kind of rake is acceptable?

0% unless there is a dealer. Then $1/pot ~ $25/hr.

I don't consider any rake to be acceptable for a home game. Note that many people who post in this forum refer to what I call a club game as a home game. A home game to me is invited friends only as a primarily social function.

Rake without a dealer is unacceptable.

I think that a rake up to 5 is fine as long as that person is not being greedy and is giving back to the players. Free drinks, food, atmosphere, etc.

Personally the game I deal at has an 8% (1/12) max 5 but the players understand and take advantage of everything the host offers.

if you have a game where you order pizza and have drinks, beer or anything like that, i think 10% up to $5 is perfectly fine..of course if you are playing $1-$2

Normally, we play $.25 - $.5, and we have a dealer.

In a home game, 0%. If you've got a dealer I guess tip him/her.

Friendly home game - Zero. If, as the host you want to provide food and drink just inform everyone and charge them their share. (Pizza and Beer was $100, 10 guys, everyone pays $10. If they're smart they'll buy in for an extra $10 and pay you in chips.) Otherwise let them bring their own F&D.

Home game played primarily for money, most players don't know each other well, etc. with a dealer - If you're going to operate like a casino might as well rake it pretty much the same....10% WITH a cap

10% with no cap is just insane

even 10% WITH a cap is retarded unless people are willing to pay that much.

Id say 10% max 5-15$ is fair if food/soda/beer/red bull is provided. I would and I do pay more at juicy games.
If people dont think it is fair they wont play there, there are MANY options around
