Fold?
Hero is readless, but this game is generally somewhat LAG-y. Online 6-max $1/$2 with 6 players.
Folded to Hero on the button, who raises with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB and BB both call. Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (6 SB) Checked to Hero who bets. SB folds and then BB check-raises. Should Hero fold here? What do you think of the c-bet? |

Re: Fold?
cbet is standard.
getting 9:1 with two backdoor draws and likely a few pair outs and closing the action and position == easy peel. |

Re: Fold?
Is the value of my backdoor draws relative to the board? Specifically, are they worth more outs because the board is so dry? It seems very likely, given the board texture, that villain has a pair (or, more rarely, better) given the check-raise (most likely a 9, but sometimes a 5, and less often a 2). As such, even ignoring implied odds, aren't the backdoor draws worth more than they would be in other circumstances?
I make this point as a specific counter to DavidC's idea that we are overvaluing backdoor draws. The out value of backdoor draws, it seems to me--and I think this hand illustrates it well--are relative to the texture of the board and your opponents' responses to it. Imagine I knew in the above example that villain had precisely T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], giving me virtually no pair outs. Do I still have a call? I think the answer may well be yes (especially if villain doesn't know the contents of my hand and is likely to pay off a raise). (Out values are relative to other things too, like implied odds, which depend on reads for estimation. Hence the centrality of reads in this and many other decisions.) |

Re: Fold?
Easy peel. If you fold this spot, you're just asking to get abused by aggressive players. I show down any pair.
