Open Raising 2.5xBB vs. 3xBB

I currently play at the $5.50s on Stars and expect to be taking a shot at the $11s soon. From reading the forums here, I know that at least at the higher buy-ins, the standard opening raise is 2.5xBB once we reach the 50/100 blind level. I've been hesitant to raise less than 3xBB, because I feel at the level I play I'm going to get too many bad calls and the 3xBB raise helps keep these to a minimum. Essentially, I have the following two questions;

1) Do you think the 2.5xBB opening raise guideline works at the $5.50s and $11 or does this create too many bad calls?
2) Do I have the levels correct? Are you raising 3xBB through the 25/50 level and then switching to 2.5xBB at the 50/100 level?

Yes it does, I usually do a 3x or 2.5x depending on how table reacts.

Always depends on how table is playing. If it seems 2.5x get called alot, I 3x it. but usually, i start doing 2.5x at the 100/200 lvl.

It definitley works at any level and it is good to start at 50/100. You will get bad calls regarless of if you add on the extra .5BB.

i think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish, and the size of your stack before you make the raise. People make the 2.5bb raise for many reasons, but often its because they have something like ATo in the CO and only 1300 chips behind when the blinds are 50/100 and dont want to get pot committed on the flop when they miss.
