things you didn\'t expect about graduate/professional school
1. less diverse group of friends
I suppose this is to be expected to an extent, but I was not expecting it to the degree I've experienced. in undergrad almost all my friends were different majors than I was and I always had a few friends that were different years or even some that didn't go to the school. after 2 years of law school I have zero friends who are not in the law school. the vast majority are my same year. I've only met a handful of graduate students in other departments, and have never met an undergrad. 2. we have lockers wtf 3. guys primarily drink diet soda I felt like this was borderline socially unacceptable for a guy to do in undergrad. now I feel like a good 80% of guys drink diet instead of regular. |

In high school I had friends who were interested in many different things but I met them through the general classes I had to take. In undergrad 95% of my friends are people I have met in either math or music classes. Since I take two or three classes in each of those departments a semester, it makes sense that I would become friends with people in those classes, especially those I've had many classes with. In grad school the classes become even more specialized. With almost all of your classes in one department, you aren't going to meet people from other departments in your classes. |

I came into law school expecting the worst, but it has turned out to be extraordinarily easy.

Re: things you didn\'t expect about graduate/professional school
I didn't realize how much older people in law school really are. I knew that by taking a year off I probably wouldn't be behind, but I thought I'd probably be at the 50%ile, even though I knew that the avg age is 26, I figured it included all the wierd no name schools/night students etc.
The people in my section are for the most part really cool. I can talk to like 85% of them. You always hear about law school people being wierd/OCD/study nerds that only care about school. |
