Re: Tentative Italy Vacation Itinerary
My wife and I took a trip to Italy last May, our first. We spent 5 nights in Florence, 5 in Rome. We took a day bus trip through the hill country of Tuscany from Florence, and a day out of Rome to go to Pompeii. We loved it, I wouldn't have done it any different. Rome can't be done in a week, much less 2 days, and Florence is just so wonderful you want to stay even after you've done the tourist sites (which will still take you a week, but skip the Palazzo PItti). I think we Americans tend to make our vacations too much work, and miss out on too much. Don't just do the sights, soak up some of what makes each city unique, try a bunch of different restaurants, walk around the city at night. Take some day and half day tours with the city as home base, they're all over the web. Just my suggestion.

Re: Tentative Italy Vacation Itinerary
Skip Milan. The shopping in Rome is just as good, if not better. The only thing you would miss in Milan is the DaVinci statue, and the cool Cathedral. Easily skippable.
I would suggest spending a day or two in the Cinque Terre region. 5 small towns on the cliffs of the Thyrianian Sea, you can walk in between all 5 towns, shopping (for the wife), fantastic ocean views, vinyards, beaches etc. I was out there in Sept/Oct back in '02 and it was a perfect time to be there. |

adsman, i'm not trying to say it is a terrible city or anything, but on a 10 day italy trip do you really think verona is a must see? [/ QUOTE ] With his itinery, yeah. He has to go to Milan as he's flying out of there, but that's no reason to stay in that awful city. They can spend the night in Verona and go on to Milan to catch their flight. If he wasn't flying out of Milan then for sure skip Verona. |
