Default Medium Stakes Hold \'em: Losing Big with Expert Play

Hand from last night when I was allowed to win that I meant to post yesterday. 40 that is 3 handed and I think the fish was eating or something, maybe we were playing 3 handed voluntarily, I don't remember, Mike probably does. Once again villain is Mike L. We are in a lot of pots together because I'm easy to play against and I never fold once I get a piece of the board. FWIW 3 handed poker feels like one of my weakest spots, I think I play too many hands on the button and not enough in the sb but I have a hard time fixing it.

I raise button with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3:diamond, Mike coldcalls in sb, whoever the bb was calls (maybe it was Gary, I forget).

Flop: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Check to me and I bet like I always do, Mike c/r, I call planning to just call down probably.

Turn: K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Mike checks, I bet, he c/r

Anyone want to 3bet right here for a free showdown? I don't think he can have a hand with a 4 in it here. KX clubs is a possibility, but a "better" T seems much more likely, and this turn card makes us a favorite against them. I thought about it and then decided to call and decide what to do on the river.

River is some random heart blank.

Mike checks, I check.

I'm most interested in turn play. Maybe someone wants to bet river. Feel free to toss in a "fold preflop".

If your opponent were weak & passive so that you could turn him into a checker & caller with this move on the turn,I would like it.

As it is,against Mike,I think that the way that you played it was best.

fear of getting trifecta'd is good enough reason for me to check behind. I doubt he plays 22-99 this way, with a call in sb and all.

this doesn't seem like a good game to sit in.

Three handed is more art than science, so you need to decide what style of player you are. If it were me, I would 3 bet and probably 5 bet this flop against Mike, and failing that, I would have 3 bet the turn because it doesn't seem like he can have anything. For you, this might be enough action but I think you should probably still bet the river and get checkraised again, he might do it with worse.

Yeah the thing is that it was a must move game and there was an 8 handed main game. The tables at this casino are 9 max but when it's must move/main they will break the must move and make the main temporarily 10 handed so if I quit this game I have to wait for 2 people to leave the main game and if I stay I only have to wait for 1 to leave.

I like it all streets. Turn i would just call since most likely you are behind.

Would Mike get out of line OOP and with the "fish" as the BB?

I think the BB in this hand might have actually been a decent player, it wasn't the goofy fish from my the other hand. The fish disappeared for a while from the must move then mysteriously came back to the main game later to make sure I had a winning session.

it depends a lot on your table dynamics with mike. i've never played with him so i wouldn't know what he would or wouldn't do here but dd seems to have a firm grasp of his style here but his dynamic with him would be a lot different than yours with him probably.

all that said i would 3-bet the flop and call down if 4bet unless mike is getting way out of line.

i would also bet the river and let him checkraise me again and be okay with that.

For some reason I think he thinks I'm super straight forward because like all the showdowns we get to I have a big hand aside from 1 A high value bet every street when he was running bad and I wanted to play a pot against him and then another accidental A high bluff/don't want to see a showdown even if I have the best hand where he called with KQ. There have been some hands where we've gone 3-4 bets on early streets and he has ended up folding where I am assuming I won the battle of being most stubborn with our nothings, but it's possible he made some big expert laydowns I guess.

This hand would have been better posted before the KK hand where he c/r me with AA.
