sounds like you didn't plead the ticket down. Probably could have avoided most of the points.

Can't plead down tickets from state troopers. Sucks.

Whoever told you this is wrong and cost you a lot of grief and $$. You can plead with the assistant DA in the county you get the ticket in no matter who gave it to you.

Generally first speeding ticket is reduced to no points non-moving violation with no hassle. Standard reduction unless it is a DUI offense - then your screwed.

hmmm I got lasered at 93 in a 65 in VT and all I got was a $220 fine. I think I got points on my license, but oh well, I figure I'll die in a horrific car crash before I can accumulate enough points to matter.

Those NY State cops are sneaky bastards though, they're good at hiding and speed-trapping. My radar detector (I call her chirpy...) has saved my ass plenty in that god-forsaken hole that is upstate NY

You were travelling twice the speed limit.

The punishment should be more than the $445 and a few points you got.

Im glad you posted this.

It bothers the hell out of me that people don't slow down when the speed limit drops. It just makes no sense, at all.

Ive never heard of the extra $$'s charged though, and that does suck. Look at it this way, you could've gotten reckless driving, which would've sucked worse.

It sounds like OP is saying that just about everyone goes ~50mph through that part of the highway. If that's true, what's more dangerous, going the speed of traffic (which is a reasonable 50, its not like everyone is doing 150) or being the only one to slow down to 25?
