[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, he then goes on to say that there *was* a sign in the store, but he didn't see it. This is probably irrelevant, though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, there was a sign, but I truly didn't see it when I paid for the item. In fact, there was no way I could have seen it because it was facing the far side of the store and I would have no reason to be over there. And yes, it is relevant. I'll explain why below.

[ QUOTE ]
Despite what he says, in most jurisdictions stores do not have to post their return policies. If you do not see a "100% money back" return policy, you should assume that it's "all sales final".

[/ QUOTE ]

Not the case here.

[ QUOTE ]

Refund and Exchange Policies

No Refunds

In Florida, if any retail business has a "No Refund" and/or "No Exchange" policy, it must post a sign stating such. The sign must be visible at the point of sale, which is generally at the cash register. If no sign is posted, Florida law presumes that refunds or exchanges will be made. If you ask, the store must present the policy to you in writing. Even if you don't ask for the refund policy in writing, if the store does not post a sign it must give you at least seven days to return merchandise for a full refund. The refund will only be granted if the merchandise was unused and in its original carton, if one was furnished.

[/ QUOTE ]

So...

1) Sign posted but not visible to customer at the point of sale (sign was facing away from the register. It's not a matter of "I couldn't see it." I have 20/15 vision. Not x-ray vision).

2) I came back the next day.

3) Item was sealed.

I win.

There is a $20 charge. absolutely certain on this one.

[/ QUOTE ]

In that case, my ex-boss must be spending a shitload now. Not only from refunding these customers' money, but also from the $20 charges he keeps racking up. LOL.

All,

I hear Costco has a great return policy.

You're not kidding...I recently took 13" B/W TV that I bought about 25 years ago, told them I bought it there back when they were Price Club, and they believed me! With the store credit I was able to get a new 50" flat screen. Pretty sweet.

To the OP: I do think at least the way you represented yourself at the end was quite dickish, as has been pointed out by others. Now that employee, just doing her job, is pissed off and frazzled, all so you could have upper hand? People like you remind me of how I don't miss my years in retail.

Let me at least ask you this: wasn't there something else in the store you could have gotten with store credit? If you never plan on going back there it's one thing, but I'll bet getting something else or getting a voucher would have been a wash in the long run.

Oh, and the fact that you didn't realize that the Arnie comment was a joke and I really didn't say it, and then commented about it was just about the dorkiest thing I've ever heard. Way to act like a tool.

Naw, I figured you were either a tool for actually making the Arnie quote, or you were a tool for pretending that you did. Same difference.

Man, people sure live in a different world than me. That kind of attitude has just never entered my head. I don't know, maybe there is something wrong with me for not demanding to always get my way.

Exactly. I think the bratty kids whose parents would give in to their every whim turn into the bratty adults who will stamp their feet and whine and complain every time they don't get their way.

Says the man who admits he scammed Costco into taking back a 25 year old tv. OP did nothing wrong and was totally within his rights to ask for a refund.

Anyone who thinks OP did anything wrong probably still lives with their parents and/or has no appreciation for the value of money.
