Herc,

Good post.

Indy,

Please don't post any of his personal info publicly.

Luther,

You can't make a post asking to be staked. If people mention that they're busto and then they work out a staking arrangement in private, that's fine.

All,

Fwiw, I'm fairly certain it wasn't his original intentions to do this. I just think that greed gets the best of some people.

meh, it is a good learning experience to start with $100 or $50 or something and build it back up if you go busto/have to cash out. I have done this a few times and within a couple weeks have always been back to my normal stakes.

I mean aba went from 25nl to 60,000nl in like a year.

edit, never been busto, but have had to cash out most of my roll sometimes

Pride does this

He made an agreement and it sounds like he was losing ... so he tried to do you a favour (I guarantee he had the very best of intentions) and jumped to a higher limit.

I've seen this before under different circumstances.

He should have just talked to you when things went sour. So much easier in the long run.

Posted some of my trials and tribulations in OT censored thread. Summary: SNGs busted me to $15, rebuilding at NL 6max ring started by shortstacking 1c/2c, now up to 10c/25c.

It would be a mistake for someone to stake me because the extreme position of recovering from $15 has forced me to be 100% serious in my attitude to poker. I am learning faster than I ever have because if I don't then I go busto and stop playing.

This experience is without a doubt the most valuable of my poker "career". Grinding 2-3k hands a day with my ass on the line is building poker character as well as poker knowledge and skill.

Situations where it is worth staking someone are where there are special situations eg Bigjoe in Monaco, or for the WSOP, where the BI is so large relative to their normal game, that statistics don't have the sample size to pay off for the player. It's sensible for the player to hedge their exposure by being staked, and a great opportunity (with a fair deal) for the stakers. Just being a winning player at a low level doesn't seem to me to justify a staking deal and is not in the best interest of either party. (Wickss deal is fun not staking!)

For players in my position the only deal that makes sense is training in return for a profit share, but the $/hr for the trainer probably won't compensate for his/her time ...

And a final 2c ... staking deal terms are generally badly calculated. We all do maths, it's surprising that the deals on these pages don't seem to attempt to calculate the correct risks and returns based on player stats.

Sry you got caught Wiggs - always happens to the good guys.

I'd made a similar offer to him on FT, but after the initial PM exchange I never heard back from him. At the time, it seemed $1.5k or so would be better put toward potential passive income than rotting in my own roll, but after taxes, doom switching, and so on, I'm actually glad I still have it. It sucks that you were the one who had to be punished for your generosity and good faith. I guess I still hope there's some good explanation, but at this point, it really looks like you'll just have to chuck the dead cat over the fence and let Arby's deal with it.

That "straight flushes" thing was so lame I never paid much attention to him.

Hope he manages to come through for you wiggs.
