Obviously unethical, definitely not worth it. In big rooms, I'm pretty sure I could have someone who's taken a course already take every test for me and no one would know.

In my experience if you have a exam thats not in the PAC there aren't enough proctors to even escort you to the bathroom. I know people who just leave their backpacks in the hall and when they go the bathroom take a look at their notes.

What program/year you in?

I wrote an exam today, and had to go to the washroom. Someone took me there, and just waited outside(not the stall, but outside the whole washroom). I figured it would always be easy to just take notes into a stall or something, but you could have like a team of people in the washroom helping you at my school.

At my university there was this girl in my department, honour role, top-of-the-class, whiz kid. All the profs loved her. And EVERY class I ever had with her (over 3 years it was about 4 or 5) she went to the washroom on every exam, about 30 mins in, and the profs allowed it, unattended. It drove me nuts, because I was sure she was up to something. We had one class together where the prof wouldn't allow washroom breaks and *suprise* she had a really tough time with that class. Maybe it was pure coincidence but I don't think so.

my school has an honor code where the teachers aren't even allowed to proctor our exams.

basically, it's a free license to cheat, but barely anyone does... it's kinda cool actually.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's pretty much how it is at my school too, teachers can proctor if they want, but half the time they just leave and come back to collect the tests. No one cheats, at least as far as I can tell.

The thing with cheating in college is that the penalties are very high. In high school if you get caught cheating its basically a slap on the wrist. In college though if you get caught you are risking expulsion from the school and if that happens good luck finding another school to get into.

Tell me about it.

haha this reminds of a story. we played a lot of poker in college but didnt have much money. this created a complex ledger system where everyone owed everyone else theoretical money. obv ppl rarely payed actual money after awhile. we jsut swapped debt back and forth.

so one kid owed someone else like 150 in ledger debt. well, the owee was horrible at compsci. it was like his 3rd time in the class at this point. luckily the debtor was a compsci major and had tested out of the class. big 150 person class and the prof doesnt even show up for tests so no one knew that a 6'6 oaf from jersey replaced the skinny asian kid for the final.

to clarify, ya the asian kid sucked at computers. go figure.

edit: wtf forum is this. never seen this place.

Haha, I found this reaction funny. This used to be The Dorm, but I doubt you frequented that much either.

haha, i was just about to respond to that..you sure you got it right still?

at my school they have the honor code pretty much. it'd be pretty easy to cheat by just bringing stuff in he bathroom bc they dont escort you out or anything, though most profs walk around the room while ppl are taking the exam or sit at the front and scan the room

Honor code as well at wake like Bruin's. People don't cheat because the penalty is so high, but also because I think I had maybe less than 3 exams with multiple choice on them. Most exams are blue book based, so I mean maybe you could see other people's essays but that would be really hard to copy in general. A 5 minute bathroom break just isn't going to help you, essay tests just aren't like that. Also, usually time was an issue (not having enough time to write everything) so unless you had no idea about a topic a bathroom break would be as likely to hurt as help you.
