In my local league if a player accidentally exposes both of his hole cards with cards still to come the action is checked down with no further betting allowed. Reasons and cites for this??

The reason would be that who ever is making the decisions doesn't understand poker.
If I am playing in your game and a big pot develops while I'm on a draw I can flip up my cards get to draw for free? That makes lots of sense. |

If we're talking about a cash game, it's his own fault -- he gets to play the rest of the hand with his cards exposed.
In a tournament, this compromises the rest of the table because everyone has an interest in each hand -- it's supposed to work that the play continues normally but the moron who exposed his cards gets a one-orbit penalty. psandman is right -- the league made a nonstandard (and quite stupid) ruling. |

Bad rule- maybe freeze the exposed card's betting privileges, but to freeze the rest of the players? As psand said, easy to take advantage of.
