workaholic

Lucky. How do you get the motivation to be a workaholic? I severely lack motivation and currently suck at life because of it.

[/ QUOTE ]

For me it was two things:

1) Realizing that I am not any better than anyone in the world, regardless of how "stupid" I think they are or how "intelligent" I am. Got humble. I truly believe that I am no better than the minimum-wage worker at Wal-Mart and know that they are in fact better than me at many things. Once I dropped any sense of entitlement and/or arrogance, I began to work harder than ever before - for myself - and became the worst boss that I've ever had to motivate me.

2) Put yourself in a situation where if you fail, you are totally screwed.

#1 is the most important thing, I think. It's very common in the United States amongst college graduates who believe they are somehow entitled to a job because they got a degree, or that because they have nice things and an education that they are better than the high-school dropout who [censored] up his/her life with the choices that person made down the road of life. When you can look at someone who has less money than you, a worse family situation than you, tougher luck than you, less intelligence than you, less wisdom than you, less friends and contacts than you, less luxury goods than you, and honestly believe that this person is your equal: You will realize what it takes to succeed at a high level in the world.

[/ QUOTE ]

I turned into a hard worker in the last 6 months, and it had a lot to do with realizing that I knew a lot of people (mainly my extended family) that really are less capable than I am. I guess that for me it's the opposite.
