Default Limit Player->No-Limit...Short Stack Strategy

I'm a winning online limit player through 5/10 limits and I'm switching over to no-limit.

I want to use the short stack strategy outlined in Ed Miller's Getting Started in Hold'em while I study NLTAP and Harrington Vol. 1. I'm also ordering Angel Largay's book. I'll be starting at NL200.

Questions:

1) What kind of bankroll do I need to be maintaining? I know 30 buy-ins is standard, but what if your buy-in is only $50?

2)Any ideas of what kind of variance will I be looking at?

3)How profitable could this stategy be at online NL200?

4)Are there any other tips specific to online play to maximize my earn using this strategy while I study the game?

General comments welcome as well.

I play short for short bursts now and again to keep myself tooled into proper Shortstack strategy and so spot those who are playing properly and those who aren't, so as to exploit them properly. But what I've found is this:

1) it's swingy (a session of several shortstack games look like an ECG)
2) It's profitable aganst most type of table (I think) if you don't diverge.

I've only played a few thousand hands of SStack tho, so I'm not entirely sure.

So if you double up, will you rathole or keep playing?

Good points Carter about playing short once in a while to be able to spot correct use fo the strat. I seee ltos of players buy in short, but still play small pp and suitconns w/o appropriate stacks.

OP - If you are mainaining 30buy ins for short at 200nl, why not just play 25nl full for several k hands? I really believe that a solid limit player can easily make the transition to nl. I'm doing it myself, and although I only played up to 2/4 regularly it has been pretty easy. I played about 2k hands of 10nl short and then just started buying in full and playing more 25nl.

Carter:

If I double up, I keep playing. However, I open up my limping standards in LP slightly. Usually If I get up to around triple my buy-in or more I start looking for another table to sit short at. I'm also usually buying in short at 4-6 tables at a time.

Ottsville:

I'd rather play at 200nl and start with the shortstack strategy and then gradually increase the number of hands I play and stack size. That way I can spend a lot of time observing while maintaining profitability. I also think starting with the short stack strategy will minimize my ability to stack off full buy-ins on idiotic moves.

Point taken.

I like your idea of gradually adding hands as your stack increases, but can you really observe 4-6 tables effectively? Do you drop tables once your stack gets bigger at one table?

sounds like a solid plan.

Remember in NL, PP have the ability to make sets, and are therefore much more valuable 'marginal' holdings than SCs or Axs. Looser players will play PP from anywhere.
