I've played many times in HPC and lived in South Central (as a white guy no less). I have never been threatened or seen anyone threatened but it does happen. I wouldn't walk out with that much cash when you don't have to. General safety rules still apply, look aware and confident, if you make a mark out of yourself people will notice. Just put your money into a casino account and withdraw it at your convenience, I would do the same with a major win even on the strip.

In Dec-Feb some slot jackpot winners at the local casino here in Milwaukee were being followed home and then robbed. They caught the guy after he robbed about 4 people of $8K+ each.

People saying there's absolutely nothing to worry about are morons.

A guy with whom I regularly play 40/80 at Commerce recently got robbed at gunpoint by two guys at the Chevron station across the street. They drove him to a nearby strip mall and relieved him of the $6800 he had on him at the time.

"Thanks for confirming that it's mostly a perception thing."

Part of the issue is the "high-stakes" section (largest game is usually 40-80LHE or 5-10PLHE that plays big) is not really separated from the rest of the casino. At Commerce, low-limit players are not even in the same room as the high limit guys. Last time I was at HP, someone offered to sell me their watch on my walk from the bathroom to my seat. Also, HPC has a large horse-racing operation on site, with ticket runners in the poker room so you can bet horses while playing cards. No other card room has horse betting, so anyone who wants to bet horses comes to HPC. The relative shadyness of the neighborhood itself is not as much of an issue - it's just that HPC is not as close to the freeway as the other rooms so its more obvious as you approach the casino.

I think everyone is overstating the physical danger of walking out of HPC with cash safely to your car if you parked it at the valet like any non-retard would do...

I'm guessing the floorman was just trying to "upsell" the idea of keeping the money in-house and your friend got paranoid in the process.

I guess I might be worried about getting followed home after having won such a high-profile amount (as others said--check? bank wire maybe?), but I probably wouldn't worry too much...

Edit: Are there any stories of people getting followed, physically threatened, mugged or otherwise menaced on their way out of H-Park, or does everyone just assume that's going to be the case because it's located in Inglewood?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes Shane, there are actual cases where this has happened at HP.
