If you want to make it in the poker world, you really should learn how to effectively say no to these people. I simply say something like "Sorry, I never borrow, and I never lend." That seems to work just fine. Both before and since winning the ME.

I'm confused. What about this...

[ QUOTE ]
The deal was simple, though we laid out a multipage contract to cover all the details. Each of us bought shares at $500 per share. I played poker within prescribed limits for the rest of 2002. If we lost, each share took a proportionate share of the loss. If we won, I got the first 35% of the win for my time and effort as the player, and each share then got it’s portion of the remaining 65% of the win. Since I owned about 1/3 of the shares, I was getting a bit under 60% of the win.

Everbody assumes that I get hit up a lot by requests for loans and gifts, but I really don't. Maybe because anybody I play with knows that I don't lend, maybe for other reasons. But it actually happens less now than before.

that's cause anyone trying to get something off you these days will be trying to work the long con. Always protect ya neck, Greg!

i am generally never worried about carrying around 10-15k in cash on me at a casino. that said, a few times at foxwoods i will have random people say something referencing a big win i had at the 5-10nl game or the fact that i pulled a big wad out of my pocket at some point. it just opens your eyes up to the fact that when you have that kind of money on you people are watching.

i think the most people on here are getting confused between the difference in a vegas casino, a small town cardroom, and a cardroom in a major city...I wouldnt mind walking with a wad in vegas, but city cardrooms attract alot of unsavory folks who would happly jack you in the parking lot.

Edit: Are there any stories of people getting followed, physically threatened, mugged or otherwise menaced on their way out of H-Park, or does everyone just assume that's going to be the case because it's located in Inglewood?

[/ QUOTE ]
Shane,
I've played there for years because the games are so juicy and I have never had a problem nor have I ever felt unsafe. I don't even valet park there, I'd rather walk to my car than have the valet rumaging through my car. I laugh at the people who think its a death wish if you play there. Its Inglewood, not South Central people.

I've only been there once, and it didn't seem sketchy at all, but I really don't know LA's nether regions well enough to know, so I was seriously asking. Thanks for confirming that it's mostly a perception thing.

Bad advice. You draw a false distinction.

Didn't a couple of guys try to 'jack" Greg Raymer inside the Bellagio ?

Default What do you think a convenience store robber nets, >$95.00 ?

"I don't think anyone is going to murder for [$9,500]"

Get real ... what do you think a liquor store or convenience store robbery nets the robber ? You can get killed for a LOT less than $9,500. ... like $9,405 less.
