Any reads on the villain? That would really help a lot...

seemed fairly tight, hadn't played many hands and I'd been very active with raises.

Fold preflop.

I also don't like opening with K3 here, but I'm a major puss at times. At the very least, I wouldn't raise so much preflop. 3x BB isn't necessary when the blinds are this high. I think you have about as much fold equity with a raise to 500 (or even 450). It also makes it a little easier to fold if one of those two shortstacks pushes over the top.

The flop play is heavily dependent on your opponent. Is he the type of aggressive player who's pushing two overs, thinking that you whiffed? What is his preflop range, given that he called off one-fourth of his stack defending his BB?

I would make a larger raise to about 800 PF. That way you can really put pressure on the blinds and still fold to a shove, since they will know there is no fold equity and only push strong hands. On the bubble like that im more inclined to think that villian has some kind of overpair like 66-99, since i dont think he would put his chips in without the best hand with another shortstack on the table. i think its a fold.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. If you raise to 800 and one of the blinds pushes, you're going to be getting about 3-1 to call, so folding to a shove isn't so simple. Also, I don't think many opponents at this level take fold equity into consideration.

wow thanks guys, that all makes alot of sense. interesting to hear about 3BB being too large when blinds are high. I usually raise x3 even when blinds are bigger, i guess i shouldnt be doing this! i also like the big raise, making further decisions easy.

so maybe the smaller raise is better than a larger one? i do like the idea of being able to get out quickly when resistance. the other players were fairly passive so i guess any kind of fight back meant a hand

Someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but yes. A raise to 800 almost prices you in (at around 3-1) to call if one of the blinds pushes, and I'm not too excited about getting 1500-1600 in before the flop with king-rag.
