Default Montreal Trip Advice

Going to Montreal on a 3 or 4 day vacation with my GF, beginning of June. I'm looking for advice about where to go and what to do. We already have a hotel--Hotel Godin--so no advice needed on that, but all else welcome--esp. restaurant/bar recommendations and cultural/architectural stuff. Thanks in advance.

A couple of restaurant recommendations --

I had one of the best meals of my life here. Pricey but worth it if you're into good food. Make reservations well in advance.

Lower key, maybe more fun than Toque, is this place. It's loud and casual, with fantastic comfort food if you're a serious meat eater.

Just go to St. Catherine St. (Rue Ste. Catherine).

Club DOME is a probably the best club.

Cheers is also pretty sick.

Go to Les Deux Pierrots in Old Montreal for a bar/club experience you won't find anywhere else. It's really quite unique.

Here's a little more info

You're kidding, right? I would advise against both these places. In fact I think Dome closed down, but even if it didn't, it should have. Cheers is just a bar, its not bad, but its nothing special and Im sure there are tons just like it wherever you live.

If your girl like shopping, spend an afternoon walking on St Laurent they've got a lot of upscale, vintage type stores as well as a really nice block of restaurants (a lot of ethnic stuff) with outdoor seating to watch other shoppers and street musicians do their thing.

There's also always St Catherines, a little more touristy, especially tha time of year but nice. Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is one block over, I believe their running an 'art of Disney films' this summer or something similar.

St Cats and Cresent also have Montreal's more famous bars/clubs, there's like 6 on Cresent ranging from club to bar to lounge. One club I used to like downtown when I went clubbing was 737, it's way up high on a sky scrapper and during the summer they open up a huge balcony with a bar which is probably the best dance floor in Montreal (though I don't know what the crowd is like these days, haven't been in years). If music is what's most important to you at a club, stay on St Laurent, Tokyo and Red are probably the two busiest joints there.

Schwartz's near Mount Royal serves Montreal's most famous smoked meat (though IMO not always the best).

Restos are easy to find in Montreal, but it depends on what kind of food you and your girl are into so I wont try to advise.

Along a similar theme, I'm going to a bachelor party in Montreal in May. Traditionally we've stayed near Rue St Catherine and just went to strip clubs (Cleopatra's, Super Sexe, etc) and we also have been to the Casino and L'Hippodrome (horse track).

I think we'd like to check out some of the Clubs on Crescent St, probably have at least one upscale dining experience, and after that hit up lots more strip clubs. Do you we need to go any further than Rue St. Catherine for strip clubs?

Definitely looks unique--I'll also look into Old Montreal.

This sounds perfect, and yes, of course she's into shopping.

What's the best? I've heard a lot about Scwartz's already and was planning to check it out.

We're into pretty much anything, cuisine-wise. Especially into finding places that locals go, rather than just hitting the famous expensive joints.

We're also more barfly types than club kids (we're both early 30's) so any thoughts on local-favorite type bars is especially welcome.

Thanks for the replies so far.
