Get the police involved and have something expensive like $1k plus shipped (the police may help with that, dunno). The price of the item stolen is directly related to the charge.

Call the police AND the post office. The police may try to be useless but the post office is super hardcore about anybody messing with the mail. The post office will make sure the police follow through.

Are these being delivered by USPS or by UPS/FedEx?
If they are being delivered by the USPS, you should contact them immediately. They take this very seriously and have their own investigative force. Local police will not touch this and will just refer you to them. Op, you should go here: http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/mailthft.htm

[/ QUOTE ] This is just like that episode of Cops where a plain clothes officer goes into the ghetto with a somewhat unimpressive looking bicycle which just so happens to be worth $5000 then leave it unlocked and wait for someone to steal it and then charge them with grand theft.
