Repost: Hollywood Park ePoker Room Shut Down

One interesting note on the Slot Machine's evolution in technology is that the slot machine player initially rejected the video screen when computer slots were introduced. The manufacturers then replaced the screens with electromechanical reels that were controlled by a random number generator, but appeared to be physical reels that stop randomly like all the previous slots did. It has just been recently that slot players accept the new fully electronic slots (many years for acceptance) and have even let go of the notion that a slot machine must have an arm even if we only use the button to initiate action. Note that the arm on today's machines still have a mechanical feel to them even though they are only connected to a switch.

I would think you should introduce these ePoker tables in split pot games - the slowness there drives me crazy - and my guess is that most regulars would appresciate it. Also, for Omaha where it takes players real time to fold their cards, at least the computer can do it instantaneously for them when they have lost (I am assuming these machines are like on-line poker where on the river the machines decide the winning hand(s) after all betting is complete).

My view is the 2+2 community provided a tremendous amount of construcitive input regarding the Hollywood Park ePoker room. Most of the ePoker discussion was made in the following threads:

ePoker @ Hollywood Park (a smaller thread where I participated a bit)

I'm just returning from a family visit back East so I can't get too deeply into further analysis for a few days.

For now I'll say that although some 2+2 input was addressed, the most important wasn't (or addressed too late). My guess is you didn't exactly have a free hand to make the necessary changes given it appears you had to serve two masters (Hollywood Park upper management and ePoker management).

HPC will spread any game that the players request (as long as it is approved by the DOJ--aka an existing game @ HPC).
There is Limit Hold'em, No Limit Hold'em, Omaha H/L, Omaha, PLO, and also Sit 'N' Go single table tournaments in amy of the above games.

edit: one nice thing about these tables is that it takes about 2 mouse clicks and 15 seconds to change a table from one game to another.

Thanks Rick. I feel I did the best I could considering the circumstances. I do feel bad that it didn't work out on a larger scale since I like to play on the tables and I was hoping that SNG & Multi-table tournaments would be frequently played on PokerPro tables.

These tables are succeeding in different venues such as Folsom, CA a small cardroom in Northern CA and on the cruise ships. Both rooms offer ONLY PokerPro tables so it's hard to determine a player's choice between live and electronic play. However, the tables get plenty of play in those rooms. No marketing magic needed for those captive markets but it does show that players will play and enjoy the tables.

To say that these tables are succeeding in Folsom is a massive understatement. The cash games are popular, and the tournaments are always popular. They run a well attended $20 buy in tournament at 2am 3 nights a week. Go figure. And, while there may be no option at Folsom Lake Bowl to play at a traditional live table, there is plenty of competition within 1/2 hour to 1 hour drive (and South Lake Tahoe just a bit further) that if someone wants to avoid the electronic tables, they can quite easily.

Oh, I misread the post, lol. Well hopefully they will still be in action. I thought it was weird when I was at HP a couple weeks ago and saw the ePoker table sitting on the main floor, but I didn't think too much about it. I sorta wished I had gotten down there to play it when it was in it's own room, but I'm just lazy. I've been wanting to try my hand at Omaha8, maybe instead of playing online I'll see if HP has it's game going there. Good luck in future endeavors po-Jay-to.
