I wouldn't either - AC isn't safe at all once you leave the boardwalk and shopping areas, especially at night.

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't even feel safe on the strip in AC late at night. Vegas seemed like the opposite, cops on every corner and it felt like they had the strip on total lockdown.

I was oblivious to the crime and scumbags in AC my first trip there. I parked at the TAJ and walked down the boardwalk to the Trop to play poker, then walked back to the TAJ at like 3am with $1500 in my pocket. What a mistake that was, I had prostitutes chasing me down(literally running to catch up with me), guys on every corner asking for money, bums trying to get cigarettes off me and I was drunkish to top it off. Some of those guys looked like they would kill you for $1500, but thankfully I got back to the TAJ ok. I definitely learned a lesson that night, stay off the strip at night if you're by yourself.

When people refer to the strip, do you mean the boardwalk or one of the streets like Pacific or Atlantic?

How convenient is it to walk in the Marina district, say between Harrahs and the Borgata?

From his post I gather he was walking down Pacific Ave.In AC it's always a good idea to stay on the Boardwalk if you're hoofing it.

If you are looking to rent, I suggest you start looking now. Once summer rolls around, many owners are not going to try to rent yearly. This is because they can make a yearly rent in 3 months of the summer.

Brigantine is the best area and best bang for the buck. Comparing Brigantine and Atlantic City is comparing apples and oranges. I don't really suggest you live in Atlantic City, unless you live in a High Rise APT. They are generally pretty expensive in respect to the area. A few places to check out is...

The Ritz - Next to Tropicana. High ceilings and very nice tennants since its mostly the older folks.

Ocean Club - Very expensive, but considered the nicest on the boardwalk. In between Cesaers.

Regency - Next to showboat, which is next to Taj. They are pretty decent and so is rent, but last time I heard, most of these have been converted to condos.

Ocean Terrace - New Hampshire Ave. Garage parking and ample street parking around the building since nothing is around it. There is also a Jitney stop if you wish to "commute" to work as well.

If you do plan on playing fulltime, here are a couple hints I can pass along...

Get the Black card at Borgata, Presidental/Maharajah or Bengal Club at the Taj for free parking. Also, get in the habit of requesting a transfer receipt from the parking garage if you plan on going to multiple casinos. Parking is about $5, so the amount you save can really add up.

Do your grocery shopping at Absecon or Pleasantville. I personally goto pleasantville because there is the asian market, Kmart (closest thing to a walmart), Rite Aid, Pathmark. There is nowhere you can really do food/grocery shopping in Atlantic City unless you goto a Mom and Pop store where I can't guarantee freshness and selection as well as competitive prices.

As a seasoned veteran in Atlantic City, I can tell you that the games are relatively poor during the late fall/winter season. You will play generally play with the same people all the time during the weekday everywhere, and I can gaurantee you will play with the same people at the Taj.

Don't forget to check out when you play at the Taj or Borgata. I can't tell you how many points I have lost because I forgot to do this.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

What the eff are you doing up at 9:30AM on a saturday? Me? Well, my sleeping schedule is all roughed up and I woke up at 2AM today. Thinking of going to the taj right now.

Mike, lobby for me to get a nickname so I can get rid of this asterik/star removed. It makes me look like a 2+2 delinquent when I am actually a model citizen that spits useful information. NT! gave it to me at OOT because I asked about getting mp3s.

I promise to contribute in the Brick and Mortar forum more often, especially in AC related questions and threads.

Eh... that's why I added "seems". I spent a lot of time rooting through some of the crime statistics and links you posted in that other thread. They scared me some. Also the description of car theft as recreational sport.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think the crime stats should scare folks (but not scare 'em off). The nasty parts of Vegas have crime at like 4x the national average. But the nice parts of Vegas are well below the national average. And most of the crime in the distant areas are property crimes--kids looking for joyrides, dark homes with newspapers accumulating making 'em obvious targets, whatever. Which is why it's kinda important to do some homework when picking where you're gonna live. And don't park your Maserati on the street no matter where you live.

And I'm sure that applies to Atlantic City. AC itself seems mighty scummy. But there have to be some nicer places in reasonable commuting distance.

My neighborhood has some of the highest crime stats in Las Vegas, and it doesnt even come close to AC. I think that explains it all.

Like Prodigy mentioned no real reason to live in AC at all, there are many nice options in easy driving distance.

There's really no reason to walk (if you can walk there at all), they're kind of isolated... there's nothing there. Forget walking to the boardwalk/into the city, you have to go through ghetto and it's a hike anyway.

Last I checked the Jitney doesn't stop at Borgata, and Harrahs also has a shuttle between their various properties. I am considering using Harrahs' stop as a way to get between elsewhere and the Borgata.
