Re: Don Imus
[ QUOTE ]
If the Imus stir does not make sense to you, here is the best explanation yet. Sport's columnist Dave Zirin: http://www.counterpunch.org/zirin04132007.html [/ QUOTE ] I understand the whole "straw that broke the camel's back" thing here, but that's not all. If that was all, Imus wouldn't be taking such a full force attack in him personally. If that was what it was, his apologies should have been accepted. |

Re: Don Imus
If the movement was so 'fringe' or 'ignored' why do so many rappers, incuding mega-stars like Tupac, feel a need to keep attacking these protesters in their songs? If they were so 'ignored' why were they able to stop the distribution of one of Tupac's albums?

Should people be trying to get his stunt double fired? Given his history of derogatory statements, his apology turned out to be, in terms of saving his job, virtually irrelevant (justifiably). |

Hasn't Tupac been dead for like 10 years?

Hasn't Tupac been dead for like 10 years? [/ QUOTE ] At least. Part of my point is that some people have been protesting rap lyrics for a long time. C. Delores Tucker kicked the bucket 2 years ago, but keep up her protests until the very end. Butts got his 15 minutes of national fame when he ran over a bunch of rap cds with a steamroller. Oprah's statements were within the last year and came out of a dialogue with Ludacris and other rapper who were upset at not being invited on her show. |

Re: Don Imus
Is it possible to think that both what Imus said and what rappers say is equally stupid? If so, how does one avoid being lumped in as a hypocrite by seemingly every single Imus supporter who uses the "well rappers say it too" argument ?

[/ QUOTE ] Say you think the rappers who say such things should be fired from their labels and shouldn't be played on the radio or MTV, and DJ's who play their songs should be fired, etc. etc. |

Be interesting to see if you don't. |
